State Wrestling

We traveled to Columbia on February 13 for State Wrestling. On Thursday we headed to Mizzou arena early in the morning. The kids and coaches had saved us seats. They were good seats also. Opening ceremonies were really neat. All the wrestlers marched out in their weight classes and then the National Anthem was sang. Jacob wrestled early in the morning and it was a nail biter.....he pulled it off and won by points. He went on to win again on Friday morning and we knew at that time he would be a medal winner, the question was still which medal he would be going for. Friday afternoon he wrestled and lost so we knew he wasn't wrestling for 1st or 2nd. Saturday he came out with renewed strength and vigor and won his first match so he wrestled for 3rd and 4th place. He wrestled this match against the kid from Maryville. He lost and thought he was somewhat dissapointed until he realized that he WON A FOURTH PLACE MEDAL AT STATE! He was ok then. Of course then he got to go out and eat a HUGE cheeseburger. He had not eaten much of anything all week as they had to weigh in each day. (he hasn't stopped eating yet) We had to go back for the evening session as medals were awarded after the final matches in each weight group. Both of his grandma Sharon's and Grandpas Doug and Jim were there on Thursday, Grandma Sharon and Grandpa Doug got to stay the rest of the tournament also. A fellow wrestler Zach came down to watch as well as the coaches wife, daughter and Jacob's biggest fan Tad. Verna, Bob and Spud came down on Sat. We seen some other folks from our area also. Two other SH wrestlers also made it to state competion and even though they didn't medal they did a good job. We also got to watch alot of the kids we have watched wrestle throughout the season from other schools. We really enjoyed seeing a couple of the kids from Albany that Jacob visits and wrestles with and against. It was fun to yell for them also. Despite we came ome in the rain we did make it home before the weather turned nasty.

Other Highlights going on in the King's world...........
Adam went to Richmond to Jr. High band contest on Sat (he didn't go with us to state as he didn't want to miss Homecoming week and he had contest) The band got a 1 rating! It was good all around for SH this past weekend. His first wrestling match is this Thursday.
Dustin graduates on March 7 from the Police Academy in Kansas. Abbie turns 1 in April.
Tyler will be home March 10 (to stay) YEAH!
